Question 1

How much does tuckpointing cost in St. Louis?

Accepted Answer

Tuckpointing cost in St. Louis depends on the extent of mortar damage, wall accessibility, and whether any brick replacement is needed. Anchor Masonry offers free on-site estimates — call (314) 775-4557 for an honest, no-pressure quote.

Question 2

How do I know if my brick needs tuckpointing or repair?

Accepted Answer

Run a flathead screwdriver across your mortar joints — if mortar scrapes out easily or crumbles, it's failing and needs tuckpointing. Other signs include visible gaps between bricks, white mineral staining (efflorescence), water getting inside walls after rain, or mortar that's recessed more than 1/4 inch from the brick face.

Question 3

Question 4

What is the difference between tuckpointing and repointing?

Accepted Answer

Repointing means replacing old mortar with new mortar; tuckpointing specifically uses two contrasting colors — a base mortar flush with the brick and a thin contrasting line — for a clean, finished look. In everyday use, most St. Louis contractors use the terms interchangeably. Anchor Masonry matches the original joint style and mortar color on all jobs.
